A building that has always been about community.
Lucerne Old Town was imagined like the beginning of a book.
Some places take time to become what they are. This building started as student housing, spent years as a YMCA, and became Hyve in 2019 when Capsule Hotel Group kept the spirit intact and added to it.
Today, original art and murals by local artists line the walls, and every year during Art Basel, the building becomes the home of the Basel Art Summer Camp, where emerging artists show their work to the city. The building has always attracted people with something to bring. It still does. Some things only appear once the lights dim.
At the heart of the hotel, the large community table tells the story of how Capsule Hotel began. Photos, sketches and small keepsakes from the early days are built into the surface. It’s part memory, part timeline, part meeting place.
