Where to eat when you’re staying at Zurich Airport
Airport food has a reputation, and Zurich Airport is no exception to the rule that everything costs more once you clear security. But staying at Capsule Hotel puts you right in the middle of more options than most guests expect. Here’s the honest breakdown of what’s around you, from the cheapest to the most considered.
A quick map of where things are
The airport splits into two main areas worth knowing about. The Airport Centre is the large shopping mall directly connected to the terminal and the train station, which sits on its lower level. This is where you’ll find supermarkets, a food court, and most of the everyday eating options, all before security, so accessible at any hour without a boarding pass. The Circle is a separate complex a short walk away, also pre-security, with a more considered restaurant offering and a rooftop bar. Everything below falls into one of those two places.
Airport Centre — the building you’re already in
Migros and Coop Takeaway
Airport Centre, lower level (train station)
Both supermarket chains have takeaway counters at the train station on the lower level of the Airport Centre, which means they are essentially on your doorstep as a hotel guest. Sandwiches, salads, hot dishes and drinks at prices that feel almost normal by the standards of the building they’re in. If you want a quick breakfast before an early flight or something to take back to your capsule, this is the first place to go.
The food court
Airport Centre, lower level
Right alongside the supermarkets, the food court has a range wider than most airport options manage: burgers, Indian, Thai, and a few other counters depending on the day. Nothing remarkable, but honest food at airport prices and enough variety that a group with different cravings can all find something. All pre-security, open to anyone.
Alpine Bar
Capsule Hotel Zurich Airport, in front of Check-in 1
The Alpine Bar serves pizza at prices that are reasonable even by Swiss standards, alongside a full drinks menu with local craft beer, Swiss spirits and coffee. Open 24 hours a day, which makes it useful at hours when most of the food court has closed. Non-guests are welcome.
Too Good To Go
Worth knowing about if you’re flexible on timing. Too Good To Go lets you buy surplus food from airport restaurants and shops at a significant discount at the end of their service. You won’t know exactly what you’re getting, but the savings are real and the portions tend to be generous. Download it before you arrive and check what’s available when you land.

The Circle — a short walk away, worth the detour
The Circle is a large mixed-use complex attached to the airport, reachable in a few minutes on foot following the signs for tram stops 10 and 12. It’s pre-security and open to everyone. The quality of the restaurants here is noticeably higher than what’s inside the Airport Centre, and the setting, built around a park with a rooftop terrace above it, makes it feel less like eating at an airport and more like eating in a city.
L’oro di Napoli
Neapolitan pizza from a wood-fired oven imported from Italy, with dough made in-house and a terrace overlooking The Circle park. The kind of pizza that makes airport food feel like an unfair comparison. Book ahead for dinner; lunch is easier to walk into.
Negishi Sushi Bar
Fresh sushi, poke bowls, bento boxes to take away and a menu that also covers karaage chicken and spicy soups. A full lunch comes in at around CHF 50 to 60.
Sablier
The rooftop restaurant and bar above The Circle, with a terrace overlooking the park and 15 GaultMillau points to its name. The menu is French, the wine list runs to around 300 selections, and the price level is exactly what that implies. Go for a drink on the terrace rather than a full dinner if you want the view without the bill.
24 hours: sleep, explore, repeat
A full day in Zurich is worth it, and overnight at the airport makes the logistics effortless. Everything listed in the 6-hour section is worth doing here too, at a more relaxed pace: Lindenhof Hill, the Grossmünster and Fraumünster, the walk along the lake, Sprüngli. With a full day you can fit all of it and still have room for what’s below.
Capsule Hotel Zurich Airport
Check in when you land, sleep properly, leave your bags and start the day with a coffee at the Alpine Bar. The city is ten minutes away and you already know you don’t have far to walk to your gate in the morning. This is the cleanest version of a long layover.
